Conférence: “A Joint Struggle for an End to the Israeli Occupation and Racism”
Mardi, 3 mai 2011 - 8h52 AM
Tuesday 3 May 2011
============================================
The first ever public political conference between Palestinian and Israeli social movements will be held this Saturday, 7 May, in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron.
The conference, entitled A Joint Struggle for an End to the Israeli Occupation and Racism, is the initiative of the Alternative Information Center (AIC), progressive social movements in Hebron and Tarabut-Hithabrut, a social movement in Israel.
The conference includes an analysis of the current political situation, a review of existing popular resistance to Israel’s occupation and racism and an examination of the possibilities and challenges of a joint Palestinian-Israeli struggle against Israel’s occupation and racist policies.
The Governor of the Hebron District, Kamal Hmeid, will open the conference and welcome the participants.
“Most people take the incorrect view that realities inside of Israel are unrelated to the occupation and what is happening in the Occupied Palestinian Territory,” says Sergio Yahni of the AIC. “This conference will provide the first ever opportunity to discuss ethnic and class questions seemingly internal to Israeli society within the overall context of Israeli colonialism. This creates a liberation approach which intrinsically includes Palestinians and Israelis.” Yahni adds that “we are attempting to create the links necessary for a holistic struggle for freedom, justice and democracy.”
Over 300 Palestinians and Israelis are expected to participate in this conference, women and men active in social struggles in the Hebron area, the southern West Bank and throughout Israel on issues related to an end to the Israeli occupation and colonialism; social justice; minority rights; migrant workers and asylum seekers’ rights; feminism; the Mizrahi struggle and education.
