URGENT ACTION NOW – TWO URGENT APPEALS

Mardi, 3 février 2009

Tuesday 3 February 2009

Presently we have two urgent calls out to our members and supporters.

Disinvestment Letter to Arch Bishop of Canterbury

Firstly we are asking all supporters of Palestine people and their legitimate demands for a free and independent Palestinian state to write to the Bishops’ of the Church of England to demand

that they disinvest from companies that profit from the oppression of the Palestinians.

Three years ago the Church of England at their annual conference, the Church Synod, voted to heed the call of its sister church, the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East for morally responsible investment in the Palestinian Occupied Territories. In particular, it voted “to divest from companies, such as Caterpillar Inc, until they change their policies.”

The Church of England won great praise for this principled act in standing up for international law and the human rights of a people living under Occupation. However, sadly, this decision has
not been implemented.

There is a model letter with the addresses of members of the Church Synod that is quick and easy to complete. By sending it you will let them know that good policy has also to
become good practice – and the C of E’s must disinvest in companies that aid and abet the Israeli government and profit from the slaughter of the innocents.

No Grand Reception for the Israeli Ambassador

Monday 9 February - Kensington Town Hall 5:30pm

On Monday 9th February the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea are holding a lavish reception for diplomats at Kensington Town Hall – their special guest for the night will be the Israeli Ambassador.

PSC, along with Stop the War Coalition and BMI are asking all London and South East supporters to come to the town hall and show your disgust at the invitation.

Londoners who oppose Israel’s barbarity in Gaza need to make clear that while the Council lays on a sumptuous display of fine wine and food for their specially invited guest, half a million Gazans will be spending the night without electricity or running water. Many more now live in the most appalling conditions with open sewers, a lack of food and medical supplies.

That is why this event is so important – Kensington and Chelsea Council may be trying to normalise relations with Israel but we have to make clear that there can be no normalisation until the people of Gaza obtain the justice that is rightfully theirs.

Demonstration – Monday 9 February 5.30pm – 8.00pm. The nearest tube is High Street Kensington.
