STATEMENT
PARIS, JANUARY 16, 2009
During the night from January 14 to January 15, 2009, the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the French Republic was the victim of attacks with stones and metallic objects, which broke windows and caused damages to the building.
These actions were reported to the security bodies, and a letter was sent to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform about the damages and request measures of protection for the Embassy and its staff.
The Embassy denounces that this attack, as well as the writing of “Israel will defeat” on the Embassy’s building façade, was perpetrated due to the Venezuelan government’s condemnations against the atrocities committed against the Palestinian people, and its breaking off of diplomatic relations with Israel.
This attack against the Diplomatic Representation of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the French Republic, together with other verbal and written aggressions received in the last days, contrasts with Venezuela’s adherence to peace, justice and solidarity, expressed through President Hugo Chávez’s calling on “the Jewish people of the world to oppose the criminal policies of the state of Israel.” The Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to France recalls that the Bolivarian government has always opposed and will always oppose imperialism, terrorism and war, as any other kind of violence, discrimination and racism.
