Protest Against Colin Powell Attending London Fundraiser for the Jewish National Fund

Saturday 14 January 2006

Date: 15 January 2006
Time: 5.30pm

Location: Outside London Park Lane Hilton Hotel, 22 Park Lane, London W1K 1BE, (Nearest tube Hyde Park Corner or Green Park)

On the 15th of January 2006, former U.S secretary of state Colin Powell will be a guest speaker for a fundraising dinner at the Park Lane Hilton Hotel for the Jewish National Fund. The Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Friends of Al Aqsa and the Islamic Human Rights Commission are calling on everyone to join a peaceful protest outside the hotel.

The Jewish National Fund describes itself as having been “a vital part of Zionist history”. It was established with the purpose of raising funds for the acquisition and development of land in Palestine and Israel. The JNF owns 13% of Israel’s total land and according to a 1961 contract between the State of Israel and JNF, JNF-owned land can only be leased to Jews. For information about their activities please see http://www.plands.org/JNF%20Report1.pdf

It is apt that the JNF has chosen as its guest speaker, Colin Powell, a man whose career in war crimes includes wars from Vietnam to Iraq. He was the face of the neo con American Foreign Policy which has blindly supported the Israeli government of Ariel Sharon and its systematic annihilation of the Palestinian people.

While many may feel reluctant to come out on a cold Sunday evening to demonstrate it would be a shame to miss this opportunity to show Colin Powell and the JNF that injustice against the Palestinians will not be ignored by their supporters worldwide. Please bring posters, placards etc...
