A environ 3h15 du matin l’armée israélienne est entrée au domicile de Nabil Al-Raee, directeur artistique du Freedom Theatre, et l’a emmené vers une destination inconnue.

La femme de Nabil, Micaela Miranda explique ce qui s’est passé : « Le chien s’est mis à aboyer à l’extérieur et j’ai vu des soldats qui sautaient par-dessus la barrière et entraient dans le jardin de la maison. Ils ont demandé mon mari et je leur ai demandé pourquoi, c’est mon droit de savoir et c’est chez moi. Les soldats ont répondu qu’ils n’allaient pas me le dire. Alors ils ont pris Nabil, l’ont mis dans une jeep de l’armée et ont démarré et sont partis. Nous sommes très inquiets parce que nous ne savons pas où ils l’ont emmené ni pourquoi ».

Jonatan Stanczak, directeur du Freedom Theatre raconte : "J’habite à l’étage au dessus de Nabil, quand j’ai entendu ce qui se passait j’ai essayé de descendre pour parler aux soldats parce que je parle hébreu. La maison était encerclée par des soldats israéliens masqués et trois d’entre eux ont immédiatement pointé leur arme vers moi et m’ont fait rentrer à reculons dans la maison. »

Des tentatives ont aussitôt été faites pour contacter le bureau de coordination du district de l’armée israélienne, mais en vain.

Plus de la moitié des employés du Freedom Theatre ont été appelés récemment à des interrogatoires par l’armée israélienne, y compris Nabil Al-Raee. Tous se sont présentés à ces rendez-vous tels qu’ils étaient prévus et, bien qu’intimidés et même menacés, ils ont répondu aux questions posées au mieux de ce qu’ils savaient.


Jonatan Stanczak continue : « Je ne comprends pas pourquoi ils font ça alors qu’ils savent qu’ils auraient pu simplement appeler Nabil par téléphone et il serait venu répondre à toutes leurs questions ou préoccupations. Cela s’est déjà produit tant de fois par le passé que je vois une seule explication : un harcèlement continu exercé par l’armée israélienne sur les employés du Freedom Theatre et leur famille. »

Au moment de la rédaction de ce communiqué on ne sait pas encore si d’autres membres du Freedom Theatre ont été pris pendant la nuit, plusieurs d’entre eux appelés au téléphone n’ayant pas répondu.

At approximately 03:15 am the Israeli army entered the home of Nabil Al-Raee, the Artistic Director of The Freedom Theatre, and took him to an unknown location.

Nabil’s wife, Micaela Miranda explains what happened : "The dog started barking so I went outside and saw soldiers jumping over the gate and come into the yard of the house. They asked for my husband and I asked what for, that it’s my right to know and it’s my house. The soldiers replied that they were not going to tell me. They then took Nabil, brought him to an army jeep and drove off. We are very worried because we don’t know where they took him and why."

Jonatan Stanczak, Managing Director of The Freedom Theatre : "I live on the floor above Nabil and when I heard what was happening I tried to go down to talk to the soldiers because I speak Hebrew. The house was surrounded by masked Israeli soldiers and three of them immediately pointed their weapons at me and pushed me back into the house."

Attempts were immediately made to contact the District Coordination Office of the Israeli army but to no avail.

More than half the employees of The Freedom Theatre were recently called to interrogations by the Israeli army, including Nabil Al-Raee. All came to the appointments as scheduled and answered to their best of their knowledge the given questions even though they were intimidated and even threatened.

Jonatan Stanczak continues : "I don’t understand why they do this after they know they could simply have made a phone call to Nabil and he would have come to answer any questions or concerns that they might have. Since this has happened so many times in the past, I can’t interpret it as anything else than an ongoing harassment of the employees of The Freedom Theatre and their families by the Israeli army."

At this point it is unclear if any other members of The Freedom Theatre have been taken during the night. Several of them have not responded to phone calls.
