Never a dull moment in this crazy country...

A week ago the Rabin Square was filled with another Social Protest demonstration; “from the tents to lobbying the Knesset” was the motto. The demonstration took place again with a little war going on in the South. Coincidence? One Israeli casualty, ten in Gaza. Before we had recovered from the fear that this would go on and escalate - which Egyptian mediation prevented - we were shuttled into a new sensation: The Prime Minister and the Defence Minister paving the road to an attack by Israel, possibly alone, on Iran. And we don’t now even speak of the original way in which further settlement building was announced: as punishment of the Palestinians for the sin of having been accepted as member state by UNWRA. Meanwhile, today the two “Freedom boats” to break the siege of Gaza were intercepted in international waters. The courageous peace-sailors now await deportation inside an Israeli prison cell.

במדינה המטורפת הזאת אין רגע דל...

לפני שבוע שוב התמלאה כיכר רבין בעוד הפגנה מחאה חברתית, וסיסמתההמעבר מן האוהלים אל שתדלנות לוחצת בכנסת. ובזמן ההפגנה היתה שוב מלחמה קטנה בדרום. צירוף מקרים? ישראלי הרוג אחד, עשרה בעזה. לפני שהתאושנו מהחשש של הסלמה מתמשכת – מה שנמנע על ידי התיווך המצרי – וכבר נפלנו לתוך מערבולת חדשה: ראש הממשלה ושר הביטחון סוללים את הדרך להתקפה, אולי לבד, על איראן. שלא לדבר על הדרך המקורית להכריז על בניה נוספת בהתנחלויות: כעונש על חטאם של הפלסטינים שהעזו להתקבל כמדינה חברה בידי אונר"א. ובינתיים, היום שתי “ספינות החופש” שניסו לשבור אתהמצור על עזה נלכדו במים בינלאומיים. מלחי השלום האמיצים ממתינים עכשיו לגירוש בתוך תא בכלא הישראלי.
