Communiqué de presse de Mr ADAMOS ADAMOU

Président de la Délégation interparlementaire pour les relations avec le PLC

Saturday 16 April 2005

OFFICE OF MEP ADAMOS ADAMOU

PRESS RELEASE

The president of the Interparliamentary Delegation for Relations with the Palestinian Legislative Council, MEP Adamos Adamou welcomed yesterday during a GUE/NGL group meeting, the President of the Palestinian Legislative Council Mr Rawhi Fatouh, who is currently visiting the European Parliament.

Mr Adamou expressed his dissatisfaction and vividly condemned the murder of three children by the Israeli army in Raffa and urged Israel to respect the Sarm el Seih Agreement and consequently put an end to the attacks and violations on the Palestinian territory. The Cypriot MEP declared that the continuation of settling in the occupied Palestinian territories can simply be interpreted as an attempt to maintain the current status quo before an agreement can be achieved between the Israelis and Palestinians and continued by urging the Israeli government to put an end to such policies and proceed to the dismantling of the settlements.

Adamou condemned Israel for the continuation of the construction of the dividing wall and stressed that its demolition expresses the demand of the International Community. He concluded by making a plea to Israel to abide by and honour its commitments and to proceed to the liberation of the Palestinian political prisoners and the enhancement of the inter-community movement. Such actions will improve the living conditions of the Palestinian people and will create a favourable environment, under which new negotiations can be held towards a substantial and final solution to the Palestinian problem.

The President of the Parliamentary Delegation for Relations with the PLC hosted a working lunch today in the honour of Mr Fatouh. The Vice Presidents of the Delegation, Mr Kasoulides and Mr De Rossa, also attended the lunch, as well as the ex-President of the Interparliamentary Delegation with the PLC, Luisa Morgantini.
